The Many Faces of Fury
Tyson Fury is perhaps one of the most recognisable sporting icons of the 21st century. A man, a myth a legend. Known to some as a boxing World Champion, to others as a mental health advocate and to some as a family man.
Tyson is both an open book and an enigma in equal measure. An inspiration to many people, a man as equally devoted to his family and encouraging others to open up about their mental health as he is to producing vicious displays of his natural boxing ability in the ring. However his career has also been peppered with contradictory comments and accounts of his life as well as outspoken and inflammatory comments on subjects ranging from homosexuality and the BBC through to tattoos and the U.K. public's views of traveling communities.
The many faces of Tyson Fury is a brief attempt to catch a glimpse of the soul of a man who perhaps cannot be defined in one way but rather a man who does indeed having many faces. From world champion, to music lover and singer, through to family man and of course one side of Tyson we have all heard about; the tortured soul battling demons far more frightening than any man he will ever face in the ring.
A man who has fought battles inside his own head far lonelier than boxing itself, often described as the loneliest sport of them all. During a brief encounter on the South Wales leg of Tyson’s Home Coming tour after his brutal knockout of Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight, I created a series of headshots of Tyson that may not answer who is Tyson Fury but may at least show you his many faces so that you can decide for yourself.
